In Roman mythology, he was called Faunus, but the most famous statue, found in Pompei, has a more anthropomorphic aspect
He was often associated with sexuality, and subsequently with fertility
On one occasion he compared his music with that of Apollo, and in this statue, he is depicted while playing the flute
