Small Octopus
The Octopus is a very primordial symbol, talking to the most ancestral part of our soul. It goes deep inside of us and for this reason, it represents many of our inner features. it is a symbol of emotion and intelligence, of our potential and flexibility.
This is a reproduction of a part of Ercolano’s Terme del Foro (1st century), and it is entirely handmade.
The surface is irregular like some antique art pieces (see details in the photos)
The mosaic is an antique technique, the image is made of small colored tiles. It was particularly popular in ancient Roman and Greek houses, but the first findings date back to 3dr millennium BC in Mesopotamia. This art flourished in the Byzantine Empire and became widespread also in the western world, particularly in Sicily and Venice.
In the middle-east, it was popular in early Islamic buildings, but after the 8th-century figurative patterns fell out of fashion, and left room for the development of geometric patterns.
